I’m trying to figure out whether to take a beginning classical guitar class or an intro to acoustic guitar class. What, if there are any, are the differences between the two? What electric guitar should I get my boyfriend for his birthday?

Written by Guitars for Sale on March 11, 2009 – 5:23 pm -

hereverycentcounts.com asked: My boyfriend wants an electric guitar. I’m hoping to find a beautiful blue one that has nice sound and is good to learn on, that will grow with him, in terms of him getting better. He is a beginner, but I don’t want to buy him a cheapo crappo guitar. I’d like to spend somewhere between $300 and $700. I’ve been looking at some more in the $700 range, but should probably not spend that much. Any suggestions? I was looking at http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Standard-Plus-Top-Electric-Guitar-518341-i1149990.gc that one because people seemed to really like it but that’s where i got the $700 from. The blue one is gourg and I’ve read it’s a great guitar for the price.... more

Acoustic vs. Electric Guitars: Which Guitar to Consider Buying?

Written by Guitars for Sale on October 3, 2008 – 8:55 pm -

The most common question asked by people who want to learn to play guitar is, which type of guitar should I buy? Should I buy an electric or an acoustic guitar? The acoustic vs. electric debate has been around since electric guitars were first invented. Unfortunately there is no easy answer. There is also no right or wrong. It all depends on a number of factors such as the type of music that you want to play, the technique you would would like to master, (fingerstyle vs pick), whether you want to amplify your guitar, and perhaps also the look of the instrument. The main criteria to consider is what kind of music you want to play. Are you a Steve Vai or Metallica fan or would you rather play James Taylor songs? Do you like the classical sounds... more

Hohner Guitar

Written by Guitars for Sale on September 27, 2008 – 12:34 am -

I was just reading an article about Prince’s Hohner guitar (a tele look alike) and it kind of got me thinking about Hohner guitars.  So I did a search in our acoustic guitar shop and low and behold there are a lot of Hohner guitars for sale. The founder of Hohner was Matthias Hohner, a young German fellow who at age 24 founded the company in 1857. In those days the company produced harmonicas and still does today. In fact, the Hohner company and Bob Dylan recently announced the Bob Dylan Collection of hand-signed harmonicas. The guitars however did not begun production until the 1970s. The Hohner Telecaster played by Prince was built in the early 70s. and played on his early albums from “For You” to “Prince”, “Dirty... more

How to Buy an Acoustic Guitar

Written by Guitars for Sale on August 15, 2008 – 12:38 am -

So you’ve made a resolution to learn how to play guitar and you’ve decided that those loud electric guitars are not for you. The next step then is to decide what kind of acoustic guitar to buy. As we will see, buying an acoustic guitar is not as easy as it might seem. There are many varieties of acoustic guitars available and a wide range of prices. In terms of prices, be prepared to pay at least $100 for a beginners guitar and don’t be shocked if you see instruments costing over $10,000. You will pay a lot less for a factory-made model built in China or Korea than for a hand-made American or Canadian guitar. The reason for the discrepancy in prices is due to the materials used and the level of craftsmanship. However, it is... more
